"Empowering Families, Strengthening Communities"
OUR STORY
Deborah's Daughters is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women, single mothers, and families through encouragement, spiritual guidance, and access to vital resources. Founded by Martia L. Carter, a leader with over 30 years of community service experience, the organization addresses the unique challenges faced by single mothers in Indiana and beyond.
Focused on fostering resilience and independence, Deborah's Daughters provides a variety of services, including a resource center that connects families to transitional housing, mental health services, job assistance, and childcare through community partnerships. Additionally, the organization operates a food pantry, hosts a mental health support group called "Talks with Deborah," and offers a nationwide prayer line to provide spiritual support.
Through annual events such as fundraisers and a Mother's Day celebration, Deborah's Daughters uplifts and honors the hard work and determination of single mothers. With a mission rooted in compassion and collaboration, the organization continues to expand its reach and impact, creating a stronger, more supportive community for families.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Dr. Martia L. Carter is a powerhouse of resilience and faith—a mother, author, speaker, mental health coach, minister, and founder of Deborah’s Daughters Transitional Housing and Outreach Services. Her journey, marked by triumph over adversity, has become a beacon of hope for countless women. With over 30 years of service to her community, Martia is a relentless advocate for single mothers, women, and families in need, offering them shelter, support, and spiritual guidance. She received a Bachelor's degree in International Chaplaincy and Christian Counseling in 2024, and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Humanitarianism in 2026.
Her own trials—including a painful childhood, the challenges of single motherhood, and the heartbreak of betrayal—shaped her unwavering mission to empower others. Through faith, she transformed personal storms into stepping stones, culminating in her life’s work: guiding women toward deliverance and healing.
Despite battling health challenges, including a stroke and multiple diagnoses, Martia remains a testament to God’s grace and strength. Her story, Dancing in the Rain, inspires others to persevere, find purpose, and dance through life’s storms.
